Plagiarism Screening

Policy Statement

Jurnal Literasi Pendidikan Fisika (JLPF) is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of submitted manuscripts and published articles. Plagiarism, duplicate publication, and other forms of publication misconduct are unacceptable.

All manuscripts submitted to JLPF are subject to plagiarism and similarity screening as part of the editorial assessment. This screening supports editorial judgment and does not replace a substantive evaluation of the manuscript.

Similarity Screening

JLPF uses similarity-detection tools, including Turnitin, to help identify textual overlap between submitted manuscripts and existing publications or other sources.

The similarity percentage is not, by itself, proof of plagiarism. Editors assess the similarity report by considering the sources, nature, extent, and context of the identified overlap, including whether the material is properly quoted, paraphrased, and cited.

Important consideration

A high similarity score does not automatically establish plagiarism, while plagiarism may occur even when the overall similarity score is low. Editorial decisions are based on the content and context of the identified similarities, not solely on a numerical threshold.

Forms of Plagiarism

Potential forms of plagiarism or inappropriate textual reuse include, but are not limited to:

  • copying text, ideas, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment;
  • using another author's words or ideas without proper quotation or citation;
  • inadequately paraphrasing material from existing sources;
  • reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without appropriate disclosure or acknowledgment; and
  • submitting substantially overlapping or duplicate work without transparent disclosure and appropriate editorial approval.

Editorial Action

When potential plagiarism or inappropriate textual overlap is identified, the Editor evaluates the available evidence and determines the appropriate action according to the seriousness and context of the case. Actions may include:

  1. requesting an explanation or clarification from the authors;
  2. requesting corrections or revisions where the issue is minor and can be appropriately resolved;
  3. rejecting the manuscript when serious plagiarism or unacceptable textual reuse is established; or
  4. initiating a post-publication investigation and considering a correction, expression of concern, or retraction when warranted.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original and that ideas, quotations, data, figures, images, and other materials obtained from external sources are appropriately acknowledged and cited.

Authors should check their manuscripts for inappropriate textual similarity before submission and ensure that quotations, paraphrases, and reused material are properly documented. Authors must not submit manuscripts that have been published previously in substantially the same form or are simultaneously under consideration by another journal.

Handling of Cases

Suspected cases of plagiarism are assessed fairly and confidentially, with an opportunity for the authors to respond where appropriate. Editorial action is determined based on the available evidence and the nature and seriousness of the suspected misconduct.

Cases involving suspected research misconduct or other publication-ethics concerns may also be handled under the journal's Publication Ethics policy and the Allegation of Research Misconduct policy.

JLPF Commitment

JLPF is committed to promoting originality, transparency, fairness, and responsible scholarly publishing. Authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to uphold these principles throughout the publication process.
