Conflict of Interest Policy

Policy Statement

Jurnal Literasi Pendidikan Fisika (JLPF) is committed to ensuring transparency, objectivity, and fairness throughout the submission, peer-review, editorial decision-making, and publication processes.

A conflict of interest occurs when financial, personal, professional, academic, or other relationships or interests could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the objectivity and integrity of research, peer review, or editorial decisions.

The existence of a potential conflict of interest does not necessarily indicate inappropriate conduct. However, relevant conflicts must be disclosed and managed appropriately to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

Types of Conflicts of Interest

Conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial interests: employment, consultancy, honoraria, research funding, grants, stock ownership, patents, or other financial relationships relevant to the manuscript.
  • Personal relationships: family relationships, close personal relationships, personal disputes, or other circumstances that may affect impartial judgment.
  • Professional or institutional interests: shared institutional affiliations, supervisory relationships, close professional collaborations, or other professional connections.
  • Academic or intellectual interests: competing research interests, strong academic commitments, or other circumstances that may influence the evaluation of a manuscript.
  • Other competing interests: any additional relationships or circumstances that could reasonably be perceived as affecting the objectivity of research or editorial decisions.

Responsibilities of Authors

All authors are responsible for disclosing financial and non-financial interests that are relevant to their submitted manuscript. Authors should disclose relevant interests that could influence, or be perceived to influence, the research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or presentation of the findings.

Authors must also disclose the sources of financial support for their research and, where relevant, describe the role of funders or sponsors in the research and publication process.

When submitting a manuscript, authors should provide a conflict of interest statement indicating whether any relevant conflicts exist. If no relevant conflicts exist, authors may use the following statement:

Example: No conflict of interest

The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest related to this study.

If relevant conflicts exist, authors should describe them clearly and accurately. Disclosure does not automatically disqualify a manuscript from consideration; the Editor will assess whether any additional measures are necessary.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest that could compromise their ability to provide an objective and impartial assessment of a manuscript.

Reviewers should inform the Editor if they have relevant financial, personal, professional, institutional, or academic relationships with the authors or the research concerned. When a conflict could compromise impartiality, reviewers should decline the invitation or follow the Editor's instructions regarding withdrawal from the review process.

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and must not use unpublished information obtained during peer review for personal or professional advantage.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors and editorial board members must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and avoid handling manuscripts when their impartiality may reasonably be questioned.

When an editor has a conflict of interest involving a submitted manuscript, the editorial responsibility should be transferred to an appropriately qualified editor who has no relevant conflict. The conflicted editor must not influence the review process or the final publication decision.

Editorial decisions must be based on the manuscript's scholarly quality, relevance, originality, and the outcomes of the editorial and peer-review processes, rather than personal, financial, institutional, or other competing interests.

Disclosure and Management

Relevant conflicts of interest should be disclosed to the journal as early as possible in the submission or review process. If a previously undisclosed conflict is identified after submission or publication, the relevant individual should inform the Editor or editorial office promptly.

The Editor will assess the nature and significance of the disclosed interest and determine appropriate measures. These may include requesting additional disclosure, assigning a different reviewer or editor, clarifying the published disclosure statement, or taking other appropriate editorial action.

Where necessary, JLPF may request further information from the authors, reviewers, or other relevant parties to support a fair and transparent assessment.

Publication of Disclosure Statements

Where relevant to the manuscript, conflict of interest and funding statements should be included in the published article to support transparency and allow readers to assess potential competing interests.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their disclosures are complete and accurate. The Editor may request clarification or correction when a disclosure statement is incomplete or inaccurate.

Relationship with Other Policies

This policy should be read together with JLPF's Publication Ethics and Peer Review Policy.

JLPF Commitment

JLPF is committed to managing conflicts of interest transparently and fairly to safeguard editorial independence, peer-review integrity, and public trust in scholarly publishing.
