Peer Review Process

The Borneo Physical Education Journal (BPEJ) employs a double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, scientific integrity, and academic contribution of every manuscript submitted for publication. In this process, the identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.

Each manuscript undergoes the following stages:

1. Initial Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts are first evaluated by the Editorial Office to determine their suitability with the journal's aims and scope, author guidelines, ethical standards, and plagiarism policy. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be rejected without external review.

2. Editor Assignment

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to the Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor with expertise relevant to the manuscript's subject area.

3. Double-Blind Peer Review

The assigned editor sends the manuscript to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field. Both reviewers and authors remain anonymous during the review process.

The reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

  • Originality and novelty
  • Scientific significance
  • Research methodology
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Clarity of presentation
  • Quality of references
  • Contribution to the field of Physical Education, Sport Science, Exercise, and Health

4. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the editor will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

5. Revision Stage

If revisions are required, authors are requested to revise their manuscript by addressing all reviewer comments and submit a revised version within the specified deadline. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.

6. Final Decision

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final publication decision after considering the reviewers' recommendations and the quality of the revised manuscript.

Accepted manuscripts proceed to:

  • Copyediting
  • Layout Editing
  • Proofreading
  • Final Publication

Review Ethics

All reviewers are expected to maintain the highest standards of publication ethics by:

  • Treating manuscripts as confidential documents.
  • Providing objective, constructive, and timely reviews.
  • Declaring any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Refraining from using unpublished information for personal advantage.

Review Timeline

BPEJ strives to complete the peer review process as efficiently as possible.

Estimated review time:

  • Initial Editorial Screening: 3–7 days
  • Peer Review: 3–5 weeks
  • Revision by Authors: 2–4 weeks
  • Final Editorial Decision: 1–3 weeks
